McAtee mentioned that the decision was made after a simple discussion between him and Guardiola. He stated that he didn't know if it was going to happen, but he's happy to be part of the team and is looking forward to the tournament.

As the newly named captain for the tournament, McAtee sees this as an opportunity to play more minutes and gain experience. He believes that playing in the Euros will give him a chance to make a bigger impact than he would have at the Club World Cup.
