At the funeral, Villas-Boas shared that the club had been working with agent Jorge Mendes to bring Jota back to FC Porto in 2026-27. This was a long-discussed possibility, and the club was excited about the prospect of having Jota back.
AVB also reflected on Diogo Jota's time at the club, saying that he was a silent hero who was greatly appreciated by the fans and the team. Jota's contributions on and off the pitch were valued, and he was also a partner of the club's Esports team.
Regarding Jota's membership status, Villas-Boas said that while he was not a member of the club, he had become one in a sense through his contributions. The club also symbolically returned the membership fees of Diogo's brother, André Silva, to his family.
AVB extended his condolences to Jota's friends and former teammates, including those from Liverpool, Wolverhampton, and other clubs who were also affected by his passing.
