Jerome Rothen, a former Paris Saint-Germain winger, has unleashed a scathing critique on Kylian Mbappe's move to Real Madrid, declaring it a colossal failure. Mbappe joined the Spanish giants last summer as a free agent, racking up 49 appearances, 32 goals, and 4 assists so far. Yet, despite the potential for silverware, Rothen, speaking on RMC Radio, sees the move as a massive misstep.
According to Rothen, Mbappe should have stuck with the Ligue 1 outfit, given their recent Champions League exit at the hands of Arsenal. He asserts that Mbappe, who aimed for La Liga glory, Champions League triumph, and the coveted Ballon d'Or, has fallen short on all counts.
“Mbappé dreamt of champagne at Madrid, but it's turned into flat soda,” Rothen opined. “He won't be sipping the Ballon d'Or this year; his Madrid tenure is a flat-out failure.”
Rothen believes Mbappe's struggles can be traced back to his inability to adapt quickly. “When you’re Mbappé, you don’t need time to adapt,” he said. “He’s scoring goals, but his game is a catastrophe.”
As PSG prepares to face Arsenal in the semi-finals later this month, Mbappe's dream of La Liga glory seems distant, with Barcelona's dominance making it a tough ask. Meanwhile, PSG has already secured Ligue 1, leaving Mbappe with an uphill battle.
